In 1996, residents came together to organize clean-ups and celebrate all the wonderful things on the West Side of Charleston.

Over the years, countless volunteers have worked to beautify the neighborhoods through flower plantings, brought neighbors together with community meetings and neighborhood watch groups, worked on collaborative projects such as the Bad Buildings Report with the City of Charleston and Luna Park Historical Designation and Interpretive Signage.

And now with the first staff members, West Side Neighborhood Association continues to empower neighbors through Neighbor Socials, large scale clean-ups, date night clean-ups, fire and carbon monoxide giveaways, Dad Joke Comedy Battle and much more.

As part of our 30-year anniversary, WSNA is launching “I Am West Side Neighbor,” a storytelling campaign capturing the voices of longtime residents and younger neighbors. This campaign will serve as a love letter to the West Side — honoring its history while looking toward its future.

Project Scope

The selected videographer will:
– Collaborate with WSNA to develop a filming and storytelling plan
– Film interviews with approximately 12–15 residents (WSNA will select and collaborate to schedule several interviews at a central location or on site)                   – Capture b-roll footage of neighborhood life and showcase sense of place
– Produce:
  • 6–8 short-form caption ready videos (15-30 seconds) for social media 
  • One longer feature film (anticipated 20 minutes) for presentation at the 30-year anniversary event
– Deliver organized raw footage and project files suitable for archival storage
